Renovation Progress: Before & After

I hope everyone had a restful and relaxing July 4th weekend. For Andrew and I, this weekend was anything BUT relaxing. We took the hammer to our house and started what has turned out to be a very long, hard demo process.

If you missed it, go back and see the Home Tour of our new house so you can get a good idea of everything we did. Let's start with the kitchen.

Kitchen Before

Kitchen After

This room is getting the most of the demo. We ripped out all the cabinets (when I say "we" I mean "Andrew"), teared out the old linoleum (again, all Andrew), and opened up the wall to the den. You can already feel how much more open this space is just with those few changes!

Den Before

Den After

This room used to be covered in wood paneling. We ripped all of that out (easier said than done!), removed trim and baseboards, and took out all the carpet to reveal beautiful wood floors. You can also see that the wider opening into the living room from the entry way. Let's look at that next!

Entry Way Before

Entry Way After

This entry was a beast! When the guys went to rip out the tile, it started chipping away the concrete floor underneath. Andrew ended breaking out all the concrete, removing the subfloor to reveal the crawl space, then re-lay subfloor on top. He did a fabulous job, but this project ended up taking a good 8 - 10 hours.

We also ripped out the closet to make way for the framing guys to come in and do their thing, and I removed all the wallpaper. See, I did help with this demo: )

Other progress around the house includes 100% removed carpets, a partially torn out bathroom, and wallpaper removal from the dining room. We seriously busted our butts this week, but the progress is already paying off!

Now I am starting to pick out my paint colors and finalize finishes on everything. There are so many more awesome project ideas that we have, and I cannot wait to show you so stay tuned!

Happy Homemaking!
Sallie
